Each week, I'd like to expose you to some interesting sites and blogs for you to check out.

Here is this week's selection...

Credit Card Identity Theft

There have been a lot of problems of late with identity theft. None of us are immune to this terrible misfortune. In the Washington DC area recently, a number of restaurant clients have had their credit card numbers stolen when paying at area restaurants. Please pay very careful attention when you are paying with your card at a restaurant. To see the complete story, visit
ABC news and learn more about what happened to some DC diners. Remember, you can never be too careful!

Brabantia, a large kitchen, bathroom, and laundry room supplier is introducing a new line of clean canisters for easy and visible storage... great idea, open the drawer and see exactly what you have stored there!

According to Gourmet Retailer, "Brabantia presents its Clear Top Canisters, which are meant to be placed inside a drawer so you look down on them from above, and through the clear transparent lid to identify the contents. Available in five handy sizes: 0.5 liter, 0.7 liter, 0.9 liter, 1.2 liter and 1.5 liter capacities, the canisters are perfect for storing cooking and baking ingredients, as well as tea, coffee and sugar. See Gourmet Retailer for more information on this product.

Traverse City, Michigan

It seems that although Michigan is losing thousands of jobs in the auto industry, the people of Michigan are a hardy lot and are looking for other areas to bring jobs, fame and fortune, and some good eats to the world. Traverse City Michigan seems to be becoming a Mecca for chocolate lovers
.

According to MLive.com "It just makes sense that chocolatiers of all sorts eventually would descend upon Traverse City, Mich., a tourist region that calls its visitors "fudgies" for the slabs of gooey chocolate they're somehow compelled to purchase.

Overnight, it seems, Traverse City fudge shops have been joined by several stores offering hand-crafted chocolate bars and truffles, often flavored with fresh local cherries, honey, herbs or wine."

From books about chocolate, to Jacques Torres opening a shop there, Michigan is bringing its own twist to the chocolate industry. To learn more please see MLive.com

Trying to figure out where to go on your next vacation, and love chocolate, then Michigan might just be the place for you!

The next site is called 50 plus Friends.com. This is a site where a group of friends put together terrific recipes for you to check out. I love their slow cooker sections (note they are calling it Crockery Pot cooking after one of the Crock-Pot companies gave them a legal hassle about calling it crock-pot cooking. Instead of being grateful that they are encouraging people to cook in their slow cookers, they tried to sue these poor people.

Makes you think twice about buying a Crock-Pot, or Rival slow cooker...talk about biting the hand that feeds you!!!!!!

Check out this great site for slow cooker recipes and tons of other recipes.

Kosher Kitchens

For many of you who are not Jewish, you may have no idea what is involved in keeping a Kosher Kitchen. Generally speaking, you must have two of everything, dishwasher, refrigerator, pots, pans, and dishes, etc, one for meat and one for dairy, as you are not allowed to mix the two in your kitchen or in your diet.

Some of the bigger name appliance companies are finally beginning to see the light and are providing new and better appliances in order to assist families who keep Kosher to be better able to do just that. Here is a very interesting article from the New York Times on keeping a Kosher kitchen. If you are Jewish, you will find this article very interesting, and if you are not Jewish, you may suddenly realize that your own kitchen is not quite so bad, when you see all that is required to maintain a Kosher kitchen. Kudos to those who maintain a Kosher kitchen, you deserve a round of applause!

  1. Two of ever appliance? I didn't know that.

  2. I once baked a cake for a co-worker who was Kosher, and I bought a new wooden spoon, bowl and utencils so she could eat it.

Only one problem! I cooked it in my oven, which obviously had meat cooked in it and she couldn't eat it! Oh well, it's the thought, right? :D

  3. Biz319, at least you tried, that's what counts. There are some people who are less strict than others. I have a future sister-in-law who keeps Kosher, it scares me to death when she comes for dinner :) but she is very good and makes everything work.

Sam, usually two sinks, two refrigerators, two dishwashers at least! Then there are the dishes, although clear dishes can be used for both meat and dairy if they are washed in the dishwasher.

  4. Thanks for letting me know. I have friends who are kosher but I was not aware of this particular aspect of their diet. I mean, I know the proscriptions of the Old Testament viz a vis the admixture of a calf and its mother's milk, but I did not know that it involved such a set up at home. Thanks again for teaching me something. :-)

  5. Wow, thanks Elise for the information on the Kosher Kitchen. Just think 2 of everything and I don't have a dish washer. Well, unless you count me - as dishwasher. lol What would happen in the Kosher home if they couldn't afford these appliances? How would they manage?
